Quantum Century - Zurich and the birth of quantum mechanics

In 2025, we will be celebrating the  100th anniversary of quantum mechanics!

The birth of quantum mechanics is intimately linked to the University of Zurich, which has hosted many scientists in the field. The formulation of quantum mechanics in has laid a lasting foundation for our physical understanding of nature and technological developments.

Our exhibition in the UB Sciences explores the groundbreaking developments in quantum mechanics and the pivotal contributions made in 1920s Zurich. It showcases the pioneering ideas of scientists like Wolfgang Pauli and Gregor Wentzel and brings to life fascinating phenomena such as wave-particle duality, entanglement, and quantum tunneling.

Interactive elements and historical exhibits vividly illustrate how these theories revolutionized our understanding of reality and continue to drive technological innovation today. A captivating journey into the origins of modern physics and its wide-ranging applications.

Vernissage & Symposium: June 27, 2025

The exhibition is open to the public from June 30, Mon-Fri, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
